After graduating from the ISU DAT in May 2021, Jodee accepted her dream position as a secondary school athletic trainer and sports medicine teacher at Wenatchee High School, the community she grew up in. Shortly after her hiring at Wenatchee, she was promoted to the head athletic training position at the school.

Upon promotion, she advocated for and secured a pay raise aligned with her doctoral credential and the teacher salary compensation in her school system positively influencing the pay structure for other athletic trainers throughout her community. She also collected and presented data on the necessity for additional athletic training staff at her school and was instrumental in the hiring of two additional athletic trainers at Wenatchee and for the expansion of healthcare services to student athletes at the middle school level.

As an educator, Jodee has helped her Sports Medicine competition team successfully compete about the state and national levels, earning 3rd place in both Washington and nationally.

Jodee has become and remained involved in research and service that benefits the athletic training profession. As a research she has investigated, written about, and presented on the Health Literacy of Collegiate Hispanic Athletes and has served as a co-investigator on projects related to language barriers and concussion baseline testing.

She remains invested in national service, operating as the District 10 LGBTQIA+ Chairperson and volunteering on an initiative to update the NATA’s SafeSpace training.

Lastly, Jodee has always had an interest in entrepreneurship. In February 2023, she began her Dust to Diamonds AT Services business. Dust to Diamonds contracts with community members to provide sports medicine coverage. The company was recently hired by and partnered with local semi-professional basketball teams and intercollegiate summer baseball leagues to provide care.

From Jodee:

“I am honored and grateful to have been a part of the Doctoral Program at Indiana State University. Their dedication to their students and intention with their program is unparalleled and has created the professional and the human that I am today. The credential itself has allowed a substantial salary advancement in my career, and helped me secure a highly competitive position. But the program gave me so much more: the confidence to advocate for our profession and for our patients; the know-how to accomplish accolades that have been years in the making; and inspired vigor and tenacity to it takes to make my dreams come true.

I am loving and living life in my hometown of East Wenatchee, WA with my Wife of 8 years, 7-yr old daughter, 4 bulldogs and 3 cats. We recently finished remodeling my childhood home, and now have more time to go sea-dooing and paddle boarding on the Columbia River, which passes right in front of our home. We are in the middle of reviving my family’s beekeeping business, and are up to 2 beautiful colonies. We are hoping to collect some honey this Fall! Having a job in the secondary school setting allows us to travel in the summertime; in a couple of weeks we will be taking a trip to Minnesota, Illinois, and Wisconsin, and visiting our 18th-21st MLB stadium on the list of 30! I spend my free time gardening our expansively landscaped 1-acre lot, and working on my prototype for an invention and (hopefully!) advancement in shoe-wear; a dream that has been in the making for ten years. The ISU DAT gave me the tools necessary to advocate for myself, take risks, and pursue interests both within and outside of the athletic training profession, in order seek and secure balance in life.”
