What is an Athletic Trainer?
An Athletic Trainer is a multi-skilled healthcare professional recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), who offers care and treatment in accordance with their training/education and all state rules and regulations.
They may work with or independently of a physician.
Duties include clinical evaluation, primary care, injury prevention and recovery, concussion diagnosis, education, return to play decisions and wellness programs. They also offer emergent care, examination/clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehab for injuries and conditions.
Typically they are viewed under the sports medicine banner.
