The athletic training profession stands at a pivotal moment. Athletic trainers face systemic challenges; recruitment, misconceptions, and inadequate compensation. Go4 is addressing these issues head-on. Through Project 2030, we are leveraging data, advocacy, and innovation to elevate athletic training.

Key Issues

Compensation

According to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association’s 2023 Salary Survey the average salary for full-time athletic trainers was $68,907.21 While this was an 11% increase from the previous 2021 survey, athletic trainers still tend to start at lower salaries when compared to their peers in other allied health professions.

Work-Life Balance / Professional Respect

When current athletic trainers were asked if they would recommend entering the profession to a friend or family member, the majority responded that they would not. Follow-up questions showed that the reasons they are unwilling to recommend it are inadequate compensation, poor work-life balance, and lack of professional respect.

Mentoring / Starting Out

Newly credentialed athletic trainers are practicing in unfamiliar environments and are no longer under the supervision of a preceptor. They are introduced to new colleagues and are expected to understand or develop new policies and procedures.  New athletic trainers face challenges related to decision making, developing confidence, role ambiguity, communication, and mentor accessibility.
