Athletic Trainer to Rural Area
Lassen Community College

Background
Lassen Community College, located in the rural town of Susanville, CA, is home to 12 collegiate teams including baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, wrestling, and rodeo.
CHALLENGE
Lassen Community College’s remote setting made it difficult to attract and retain athletic trainers. Despite contracts with clinics and hospitals, athletic trainer turnover remained high, disrupting athlete care and placing strain on the athletic department.
After completing the initial contract with Go4, LCC attempted a direct hire for the following year. However, after facing continued challenges in finding a qualified AT independently, LCC re-engaged Go4
Solution
In January 2021, LCC signed its first contract with Go4. By February 2021, Go4 had recruited and placed a skilled athletic trainer who provided coverage for LCC athletes throughout the academic year.
This time, the solution was to provide both short-term coverage and long-term continuity.
Short-Term Coverage: From October to mid-November, Go4 placed a temporary AT to provide immediate care for LCC athletes.
Long-Term Solution: By mid-November, a second AT was placed for ongoing coverage. Over the course of the 2023-24 academic year, Go4 provided over 1270 hours of athletic training services.
Sustained Success and Future Program Growth
Impressed with the level of care and service consistency, LCC renewed its contract in July 2024 for a minimum of 1367 hours from August 2024 to May 2025.
A qualified candidate was sourced, vetted, hired and was on campus on August 1, 2024.
The administration was so impressed with the athletic trainer’s performance, that Go4 and LCC are in the process of converting the contract to a full-time, direct-hire position.
