About the Team

Go4 is a sports safety and intelligence platform. We place credentialed Athletic Trainers at events and venues, and every shift produces structured data: a verified credential check, a venue-specific emergency action plan, and a clinical record filed on site. More than 26,000 Athletic Trainers work through Go4, serving more than 5,000 schools, colleges, leagues, and facilities across all 50 states. We work remotely and bring the whole company together in person four times a year.

The coverage is the service and the record is the asset. Go4 is becoming the authoritative record of who provided medical coverage, where, and to what standard. That record is the data layer that makes credentialing, governance, and insurance underwriting possible at scale.

Accounting is performed today by an outsourced provider. This role brings it in-house.

About the Role

We’re looking for a hands-on Controller who wants to own an accounting function rather than a layer of one. This is the first Controller in the company’s history, and it is a builder’s seat: you will transition the close in from our provider, run it yourself, and create the controls, policies, and documentation that do not exist yet.

There are no direct reports and none are planned. You will personally enter the bills, chase the receivable, run payroll, and then close the books. The role reports to our fractional CFO through the transition and to the CEO afterward, at which point it becomes the senior-most finance seat in the company.

In this role, you will:

  • Own the monthly financial close and consolidation across entities, including balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany eliminations, cost allocations, and the deferred revenue and unbilled receivables in Contract Services
  • Deliver the monthly financial reporting package to our investors and board on a fixed date, with budget-to-actual variance analysis that answers the question before it is asked
  • Run the full transactional cycle personally, covering accounts payable, accounts receivable and collections, payroll processing, and multi-state payroll tax registrations. People Operations owns employee data and hands it to Finance, and this role owns payroll processing and the registrations themselves
  • Create and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and supporting documentation, and prepare the company to be audit-ready
  • Evaluate our accounting systems on an ongoing basis and lead any implementation that follows
  • Write SOPs and close checklists another person could execute, at a standard that lets the transactional cycle be handed to a provider as Contract Services grows

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Are an active CPA with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Have 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including a Controller or Accounting Manager role
  • Have consolidated multiple legal entities with substantive intercompany activity, including allocations, eliminations, and inter-entity funding
  • Have recently and directly performed a monthly close yourself, rather than reviewing someone else’s
  • Are comfortable owning the transactional work personally. AP entry and collections calls are part of this job
  • Write things down. Process that exists only in one person’s head is a risk to the business, and we treat it that way
  • Use AI in your current work and can describe specific workflows. We run on Claude, including direct access to production data, and one person covers this scope because of that leverage
  • Are strong on GAAP and internal controls, advanced in Excel, and a clear writer

Also valuable:

  • Experience insourcing accounting from an outsourced provider, or preparing a company for its first audit
  • Accounting system implementation or migration experience
  • Vendor management experience; outsourced AP and AR for Contract Services may eventually report to this role
  • Marketplace, healthcare, or staffing industry background

How to Apply

Complete the application form below.

Our hiring process is three conversations. You will have a 30-minute screen with our CEO, a two-hour working session with our fractional CFO, our Contract Services lead, and the operating team, who are the people you would work with daily, and a final hour with our Contract Services lead and a member of our board.

Before the working session, we will send a reconciliation and variance exercise using a redacted month of our own data. Use Claude or ChatGPT openly and show us your prompts; you will walk through your work for the first thirty minutes of that session.
