Dr. Peters graduated from the ISU DAT program in May, 2019. During her time in the ISU DAT, Heidi worked as the Head Athletic Trainer and Adjunct Faculty at Marywood University. After the DAT, Heidi transitioned into a role as the Clinical Education Coordinator for the Athletic Training Program at Marywood University. She currently serves as the Clinical Education Coordinator for the Cumberland University Master of Science in Athletic Training Program and practices clinically through per diem work.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Peters was instrumental in the training and transitioning of Athletic Training hospital staff to a telemedicine model, to ensure continued patient care, despite the COVID-19 lockdown.

Dr. Peters triumphed over a myriad of pandemic-related challenges by being involved in several programs that were significant in the AT profession, both at the clinic and university level.  It was during the pandemic that Dr. Peters became a preceptor for another MSAT program, at East Stroudsburg University, where she trained and transitioned their hospital affiliated preceptors to a telemedicine model so that MSAT students could continue with patient contact.

In the spring of 2023, Marywood University discontinued there athletic training program. Dr. Peters then proposed and pitched a distance-hybrid faculty position to Cumberland University for their MSAT program, noting that she “used the stakeholder education experiences, and advanced skills in informatics and digital media, gained from the ISU DAT, to create the proposal and presentation”.

Dr. Peters is currently the Clinical Education Coordinator at Cumberland University.

From Heidi:

“I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish any of what I have over the past 5 years without the DAT. It prepared me with advanced clinical practice skills and knowledge that fueled my confidence in the classroom and clinical education settings. Most importantly, the DAT taught me that I should never fear being the person that initiates and enacts change. Without the confidence of knowing that I AM that person–the person that wants to innovate, change, progress, and challenge the confines of what has always been done, I wouldn’t be where I’m at in my career.”
